Menopause increased oxidative stress that causes osteoporosis. Interleukin 6 is one of the proinflammatory cytokines that stimulates osteoclast formation especially when estrogen hormone decreases. One way to prevent diseases caused by oxidative stress is to consume foods rich in antioxidants one of which is purple sweet potato. This plant is rich in anthocyanin which is an antioxidant and potentially as a scavenger of free radicals. Method: This research was conducted by experimental laboratory with randomized posttest only control design method using 30 rats (Rattus norvegicus). Result: Based on one way Anova test value p-value = 0,000 <α in multiple comparison test with Least Significant Difference (LSD) test showed that there was a significant difference mean of IL-6 between negative control group and positive control or with treatment group of anthocyanin dose 20 mg, 40 mg, and 80 mg. Conclusion: anthocyanin of purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L) may decrease serum interleukin 6 levels in rats (Rattus norvegicus) post oophorectomy. For further studies it is expected to provide longer treatment time with longer dose range.
